Abstract
To pursue the question of the publication, whether social mixed structures in neighborhoods can coincide with social cohesion, the sequence of historical guiding principles of urban development should first be considered under these aspects. This is followed by an initially historically accentuated consideration of urban spatial organization, which in turn is discussed in a context with social inequality and integration or disintegration effects. In a next step, science-based findings on conditions and coherence effects of socio-economically and socio-culturally mixed neighborhoods from current studies in Germany and Switzerland are presented.
