Abstract:
“Drawing on decolonial perspectives and life course ethnography, Dina Bolokan presents a case study of post-Soviet Moldova to highlight the hypermobility of workers the in the agricultural and agrifood sector in Europe. By focusing on the recruitment structures and bilateral agreements between Switzerland/Europe and Moldova in relation to circular migration policies and post-Soviet citizenship practices, this chapter facilitates an understanding of how European and global food chains over past decades have changed prompted by an enormous demand for temporary workers, how the agricultural sector in Europe is organised, and the impact of out-migration on post-Soviet rural Moldova and the enduring health impacts on Moldovan migrants.”
