Abstract:
“The situation in Switzerland differs from that in neighbouring EU countries for a numberof reasons listed below. For years now the total population of Switzerland has included a significantly higher than average percentage of foreigners which is steadily increasing. Foreigners also hold one in every four jobs in Switzerland. Furthermore, Switzerland is not a signatory to either the Schengen Agreement or the Dublin Convention. This may have certain implications for asylum. The Swiss Government and Parliament have voiced their unequivocal support for measures to prevent the illegal employment of foreigners, in the interests of the country’s social and economic policy. The number of illegal migrants employed is increasing from year to year, through periods of economic growth and recession alike. The government is keen to improve the instruments it has at its disposal to combat this problem.”
