Their plans to leave represent a response to individual and locally-situated experiences, combined with numerous aspirations (personal, familial, communal, etc.) aimed at improving their living conditions. The traumas and forms of victimization experienced by certain UM in their country of origin and when crossing borders illegally can be exacerbated upon their arrival in their destination country, due to restrictive reception policies. In addition, as a result of family separation, the need to adapt immediately to a host environment and the vulnerability associated with the difficulty and uncertainty of having their status as minors recognized, UM are exposed to various risks. In this context of precariousness, vulnerability and risk of exclusion and victimization, the care and protection of UM must occur swiftly and effectively in order to offer them a stable and secure environment and enable them to integrate into the host society.

Based on the accounts of young UM of various origins (Afghanistan, Guinea, Mali, Burkina Faso, Eritrea, Somalia, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, etc.) who arrived in France and Switzerland, this article looks at the experiences of exile, and more specifically at the experience of crossing borders in their various dimensions (visible and invisible) during the different phases of their migratory journey.”

Keywords: Unaccompanied minors, irregular border crossing, vulnerability, victimization, France, Switzerland

Author(s) : Olivier Chavanon, Estibaliz Jimenez, Théogène-Octave Gakuba, Sylvia Garcia…

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false

43
291,7,106,197,52,133,138,458,736,200,64,262
post-37058","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-the-migration-phenomenon","tag-291","tag-article","tag-border-controls","tag-france","tag-french-language","tag-immigrant-policy","tag-migration-motives","tag-migration-routes","tag-narratives","tag-qualitative-approach","tag-unaccompanied-minors","tag-undocumented-immigrants
["GET
