Moreover, it examines whether this attitudes are related to the fact of having a migration background or not. Is there a difference between youngsters with and without a migration background? Previously released studies have already pointed out that apparently negative attitudes towards foreigners are closely related to a strict parental education (Adorno, 1969) in combination with the political understanding (Haenni Hoti, 2006) and a certain “reluctance to changes” (Stolz, 2000). Yet, the younger segment of the population seems to have a less negative attitude against foreigners comparing to the older generation (Cattacin et al, 2006; Stolz, 2000). Psychological studies have provided more insight into intercultural skills of young people with a migration background. These studies have focused mainly on the complex identity of young people (Granata, 2011; Manço, 2002). The ability to adapt to the cultural challenges of the host country as well as to their country of origin has often been referred to as cultural competence.”

Keywords: Intercultural communication competence ; second generation migrants ; discrimination ; media and migrants

Author(s) : Victoria Franco Cabrera Grütter Source : https://doc.rero.ch/record/233407 Abstract:

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false

24
6,37,57,92,173,400,151,146,589,232,73,280,114,115,145,118
post-3687","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-society-family-racism","tag-6","tag-attitudes-towards-migrants","tag-comparative-analysis","tag-country-of-origin","tag-cross-cultural-communication","tag-cultural-competency","tag-cultural-identity","tag-discrimination","tag-doctoral-thesis","tag-education","tag-german-language","tag-immigration-background","tag-intercultural-education","tag-mass-media","tag-second-generation","tag-youth
["GET
