“Migration<\/span> is<\/span> part<\/span> of<\/span> today\u2019s<\/span> globalized <\/span>world and has become a key element in <\/span>International Cooperation policy debates, <\/span>including in Switzerland. Migration plays an <\/span>important role in furthering economic de<\/span>velopment and poverty reduction, especial<\/span>ly via rural-urban migration and through <\/span>migrants\u2019 transfer of remittances to their <\/span>families in countries of origin. On the other <\/span>hand, irregular migration and forced dis<\/span>placement can entail significant downsides, <\/span>posing serious protection risks for individ<\/span>uals, and challenges both for countries of <\/span>origin (e.g. \u00abbrain drain\u00bb) and countries of <\/span>destination (e.g. border management, pro<\/span>tection, integration and social cohesion).<\/span>”<\/p>\n
