Cross border movements have been changing constantly, <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">especially since 2015. <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">This chapter provides an overview on migration movements in general, and particularly on de<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">velopments in the refugee and asylum sector from a Swiss and global perspective. While the <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">worldwide number of refugees has increased, the number of asylum applications to Switzerland <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">has been shrinking since the influx of 2015\u201316. One reason for this is the Covid-19 pandemic, sug<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">gesting the figures are likely to rise in the medium term. With regard to the Swiss migration and <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">asylum sector, the author Eduard Gnesa highlights recent amendments; namely shorter proce<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">dures, intensified efforts to integrate people within the asylum sector, better legal protection and <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">improved repatriation practices.
