“Cette contribution \u00e9tudie le fonctionnement de communaut\u00e9s concern\u00e9es par les d\u00e9parts des \u00e9migrants dans les bailliages communs de l\u2019ancienne Conf\u00e9d\u00e9ration helv\u00e9tique sous l\u2019Ancien R\u00e9gime. Ces territoires soumis \u00e0 la domination de douze des treize cantons conf\u00e9d\u00e9r\u00e9s pendant l\u2019\u00e9poque moderne (aujourd\u2019hui Suisse italienne) repr\u00e9sentent un cadre privil\u00e9gi\u00e9 pour l\u2019\u00e9tude des ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes migratoires et des enjeux de l\u2019absence. B\u00e9n\u00e9ficiant d\u2019une certaine autonomie \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9gard des cantons souverains, les communaut\u00e9s jouissent de comp\u00e9tences importantes leur permettant d\u2019intervenir dans la gestion des biens des \u00e9migrants, ainsi que dans leur repr\u00e9sentation. Les d\u00e9cisions prises par les assembl\u00e9es vicinales attestent d\u2019une implication active dans la tutelle des maisons, en confiant la repr\u00e9sentation des absents en particulier \u00e0 des familles de notables. La d\u00e9l\u00e9gation que ces derni\u00e8res re\u00e7oivent de repr\u00e9senter les \u00e9migrants leur conf\u00e8re une autorit\u00e9 consid\u00e9rable, puisqu\u2019elles obtiennent la facult\u00e9 de pr\u00e9server des patrimoines et des droits menac\u00e9s par l\u2019absence. L\u2019interchangeabilit\u00e9 des membres de la communaut\u00e9 assure ainsi l\u2019accomplissement des obligations r\u00e9ciproques et le maintien des liens sociaux dans un contexte de mobilit\u00e9 accrue.”<\/div>\n

“This contribution is devoted to the way the communities of the common bailiwicks of the former Helvetic Confederation dealt with their members\u2019 emigration under the Ancien R\u00e9gime. These territories, under the domination of twelve of the thirteen Confederate cantons during the modern era (nowadays Italian Switzerland), represent a privileged frame for the study of the migratory phenomena and the issues of the absence. Benefiting from a certain autonomy with regard to the sovereign cantons, the communities enjoyed important competences allowing them to intervene in the management of their emigrants\u2019 assets, as well as in their representation. The decisions taken by the vicinal assemblies attest to an active involvement in the guardianship of the emigrants\u2019 houses, in particular by entrusting the agency over the latter\u2019s assets to pre-eminent families. The delegation they received to represent emigrants provided these families with considerable authority, since they had the power to preserve patrimonies and rights threatened by absence. The interchangeability of community members thus ensured the fulfillment of mutual obligations and the maintenance of social ties in a context of increased mobility.”<\/span><\/div>\n
