Le 13 d\u00e9cembre 1996, le Parlement d\u00e9cide de cr\u00e9er une Commission ind\u00e9pendante d\u2019experts Suisse-Seconde Guerre mondiale charg\u00e9e de \u00ab\u00a0recherches historiques et juridiques sur le sort des avoirs ayant abouti en Suisse \u00e0 la suite de l\u2019av\u00e8nement du r\u00e9gime national-socialiste \u00bb.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"titre titreparal\">A summary and discussion of the Bergier Commission\u2019s Report on refugees<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"corps\">\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">The Bergier Commission was tasked with researching more than twenty different topics, including Switzerland\u2019s political attitude towards refugees from 1933 to 1945. The ambiguities of the \u201cGrey Zone\u201d, as described by Primo Levi, inform the analysis of Switzerland\u2019s stance. As many researchers have written since 1917, Switzerland\u2019s policy was highly and unnecessarily restrictive, especially against Jews. A large number of people who faced death threats were turned away at the border. The courage of a few citizens and their sense of justice, as well as the generous commitment of some significant segments of the population, somewhat mitigated the country\u2019s official policies but did not fully counteract them. The Bergier Commission put an end to a mythologized vision of Switzerland\u2019s past.
