Son fort impact sur la soci\u00e9t\u00e9, et les cons\u00e9quences r\u00e9elles ou suppos\u00e9es qui lui sont associ\u00e9es, g\u00e9n\u00e8rent des d\u00e9bats r\u00e9currents et d&#8217;intensit\u00e9 variable. En 1991, nous avions publi\u00e9 un premier bilan historiographique (Arlettaz S. et G. 1991). L&#8217;heure \u00e9tait alors au constat d&#8217;un relatif vide historiographique. Depuis, l&#8217;int\u00e9r\u00eat des historiens pour les questions relatives \u00e0 l&#8217;immigration et \u00e0 l&#8217;int\u00e9gration des \u00e9trangers s&#8217;est fortement d\u00e9velopp\u00e9.
