La Conf\u00e9rence des Directeurs de l\u2019Instruction publique recommande aux cantons l\u2019organisation de ces cours qu\u2019elle consid\u00e8re comme un droit pour contribuer au maintien du lien entre l\u2019\u00e9l\u00e8ve immigr\u00e9 et son pays d\u2019origine. Aujourd\u2019hui, les enfants de la troisi\u00e8me g\u00e9n\u00e9ration issus de la migration italienne sont pleinement int\u00e9gr\u00e9s et socialis\u00e9s en Suisse. Leur origine les confronte cependant \u00e0 un discours public qui valorise le multilinguisme et fait de la personne unilingue, une exception. Ces jeunes doivent aussi g\u00e9rer les composantes de l\u2019h\u00e9ritage linguistique familial, h\u00e9ritage que ne leur ont pas toujours transmis leurs parents. Les principaux r\u00e9sultats montrent la place pr\u00e9pond\u00e9rante des grands-parents pour assurer la transmission de la langue vers la troisi\u00e8me g\u00e9n\u00e9ration et la possibilit\u00e9 d\u2019une d\u00e9l\u00e9gation de cette transmission \u00e0 une institution comme l\u2019Ecole italienne. Pour d\u00e9fendre la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 des cours, le discours des organisateurs s\u2019inscrit dans une vision pluraliste de l\u2019ethnicit\u00e9 qui valorise l\u2019application d\u2019une p\u00e9dagogie multiculturelle. Un des facteurs de la motivation de la troisi\u00e8me g\u00e9n\u00e9ration est la conviction que la connaissance de la langue d\u2019origine renforcera son insertion dans chacune des r\u00e9gions linguistiques de la Suisse et l\u2019acc\u00e8s au march\u00e9 du travail.
