The increase in the number of cross-border workers is discussed in connection with the canton’s socio-economic challenges, its relationship to Berne, the European question and the political and diplomatic controversies with Italy. The results of two popular votes – both the federal “Stop mass immi-gration” initiative (voted upon on February 14th 2014) as well as the cantonal “Prima I nostri”, initiative (voted upon on September 25th 2015) – have been starkly influenced by the perception of cross-border workers by Ticinese citizens. The analysis of their social representations shows that cross-border workers are considered either as a “problem” or a “resource”. Yet a significant share of citizens holds a more ambivalent opinion.”

Keywords : Ticino, Switzerland, voting behavior, centre-periphery, regionalism, cross-border workers

Author(s) : Oscar Mazzoleni, Andrea Pilotti Source : https://serval.unil.ch/notice/serval:BIB_1A764E1CD102 Abstract:

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false

12
582,7,106,287,520,52,253,19,411,279,320,96
post-2781","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-politics","tag-582","tag-article","tag-border-controls","tag-commuters","tag-cross-border-workers","tag-french-language","tag-italy","tag-labour-market","tag-perception","tag-socioeconomic-factors","tag-ticino","tag-voting-behaviour
["GET
