Abstract English: “This article provides an analysis of the popular initiative “for democratic naturalizations”, based on a sociology of knowledge approach to discourse. The widespread debate prior to the popular vote primarily raised the issue of political participation in conjunction with migration. Four discourses structured the public debate: (1) democracy as (absolute) popular government, (2) (masses of) non-fitting foreigners, (3) democracy based on the rule of law, and (4) integrative democracy. Contextualizing these discourses within traditions of political thought, the article argues that in contemporary German-speaking Switzerland, populism is best understood as radicalized conservative discourse.”

Keywords: Populismus, Konservatismus, Demokratie, wissenssoziologische Diskursanalyse; populism, conservatism, democracy, sociology of knowledge approach to discourse

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false

12
141,7,70,152,73,17,93,123,94,95,361,254
post-2704","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-politics","tag-141","tag-article","tag-citizenship","tag-discourse","tag-german-language","tag-immigrants","tag-naturalization","tag-political-participation","tag-political-system","tag-populism","tag-referendums-and-initiatives","tag-right-wing-radicalism
["GET
