Using Luxembourg Income Study data, descriptive and multivariate analyses provide support for a ‘migrant in the market’ model of employment, notwithstanding variation across countries. The data demonstrate a wage penalty in both high- and low-status care employment in several liberal welfare regimes, with the latter (service jobs in health, education and social work) more likely to be part-time and situated in the private sector. Migrant care workers are found to work disproportionately in low-status, low-wage types of care and, in some cases, to incur additional wage penalties compared to native-born care workers with equivalent human capital.

Keywords Care work, immigration, liberal welfare regimes, wage stratification, social inequality

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false

16
285,7,459,76,240,9,436,560,19,47,382,438,383,315
post-2238","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-economics","tag-285","tag-article","tag-australia","tag-canada","tag-employment","tag-english-language","tag-iceland","tag-israel","tag-labour-market","tag-social-inequalities","tag-united-kingdom","tag-united-states","tag-wages","tag-welfare-state
["GET
