The present article considers the evolution of the structural integration of this population in the transition from the first to the second generation. In both countries the politics have started since the 1990s to recognise that the minorities with a migration background are indeed part of the nation. The emergence of socioeconomic problems among immigrant families has urged the State to intervene to foster their structural integration basing its action on statistical and sociological analyses. The studies were focused on this dimension of integration, considered fundamental for the second–generation inclusion in other social areas as well. Their results are almost unanimous: in both countries qualifications formally recognised have a decisive impact on the performance in the labour market and, therefore, on the structural integration of the second generation. Although there has been progress in the intergenerational structural integration of the population with migration background, mechanisms of social exclusion still concern the youth of certain ethnic groups especially in the school systems. The reasons of this situation have been recently investigated by studies ad hoc. The transition phases within the selective school systems and from the school to the labour market are crucial. The present article describes some integration projects which aim to enhance the potentiality of second–generation youth in these important phases.

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false

16
6,7,176,226,461,19,83,403,145,91,118
post-1970","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-economics","tag-6","tag-article","tag-economic-integration","tag-germany","tag-italian-language","tag-labour-market","tag-labour-market-policy","tag-qualifications","tag-second-generation","tag-social-integration","tag-youth
["GET
